Daemon Clark

Daemon Clark

Violinist, pianist, conductor, photographer and graduate of UWA's School of Music: with today's digital camera technology, focus has become the focus. By enlarging a small portion of the background of a close-up floral photograph, these otherwise unobtrusive, secondary characters become the centre of attention. Without the focus that the subject usually enjoys, perception becomes less of a clinical assessment of the photograph. There is no obvious recognition of the image as a matter-of-fact, verbatim reproduction of the view snatched from a moment in time and preserved in the formaldehyde of digital memory. The image becomes more a work of art - an impressionist suggestion of the subject, engaging the viewer to respond with perceptions and interpretation. The attention is drawn to an appreciation of the magnificent forms and colours of our Hills' native flora and the reaction that that inspires rather than the cleverness of the technology that has captured them.

Hugh Fiddy

Hugh is an entirely self-taught photographer.  He regards himself as very much ‘old-school’ because he uses the medium of film rather than digital.  “I prefer the clarity and cleanliness in the printed image that you get with film.  I also like the thrill of the chase that comes from using film – waiting days or weeks to see the printed image is an integral part of photography.”
